What is 3Below memory foam?
3Below is our gel-infused memory foam, the layer your body touches first. Memory foam is polyurethane foam engineered to respond slowly to pressure, so it molds to your shoulders and hips and spreads your weight evenly instead of pushing back at pressure points. The gel infusion pulls heat away from your skin, which is why the surface feels cool to the touch. In the W1.27 it is a 1.5-inch layer at 4 lb density and 10 ILD, soft enough to contour deeply but dense enough to keep doing it for years. In the W2.15 it is a 1-inch copper-infused top with an active thermaphase cooling surface, tuned to move heat even faster over the coil base.
What is ZeroG foam?
ZeroG is our polymer-reinforced transition foam, the layer that sits between the soft memory foam and the firm support core. Its job is to stop your hips from sinking through to the firm base while keeping the surface pressure-free, which is where the name comes from: the target feel is weightlessness. The polymer reinforcement makes the foam more resilient than standard polyfoam, so it springs back instead of taking a set. Both mattresses use two grades of it: a 2-inch layer at 3 lb and 18 ILD for cushioning, and a firmer layer at 5 lb and 20 ILD for deep support (1.5 inches in the W1.27, 1 inch in the W2.15). All foam layers in the W1.27 are crosshatch-ventilated, with channels cut through the foam so air moves when you do.
What do foam density and ILD actually mean?
Density is how much material is packed into the foam, measured in pounds per cubic foot. It has nothing to do with firmness. A 5 lb foam can be soft and a 2 lb foam can be firm. What density predicts is durability: more polymer per cubic foot means more years before the foam softens and sags. Typical boxed mattresses use comfort foams around 3 lb. Wright's comfort layers run 4 to 5 lb, which is the main reason we can back them with a 15-year warranty. If a brand will not tell you its densities, assume they are low.
ILD stands for indentation load deflection, and it is the firmness number. It measures how many pounds of force it takes to compress a foam sample by 25 percent. Low ILD means plush (our 10 ILD 3Below top), higher ILD means firmer (our 30 ILD base). A good mattress stacks low-ILD foam over high-ILD foam: softness where you touch it, support underneath. Density is the lifespan number, ILD is the feel number, and you need both to judge a spec sheet.
What is in the support cores?
The W1.27 stands on a 6-inch base foam at 1.8 lb density and 30 ILD, the firm foundation that keeps your spine level. The W2.15 uses an 8-inch pocket coil base instead: steel coils, each wrapped in its own fabric pocket so it compresses independently and motion stays local. The unit is triple-zoned, meaning the coils are gauged differently under your shoulders, hips, and legs, and triple heat-tempered. Tempering heats and cools the steel repeatedly so each coil holds its tension through years of nightly compression. The perimeter row is reinforced for edge support. What does CertiPUR-US actually certify?
CertiPUR-US is an independent certification program for polyurethane foam. Certified foams are made without ozone depleters, without PBDE, TDCPP, or TCEP flame retardants, without mercury, lead, or other heavy metals, without formaldehyde, and without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Certified foams are also low-VOC, meaning low emissions of volatile organic compounds for indoor air quality. Every foam in both Wright mattresses is CertiPUR-US certified. In short: no harmful chemicals in the thing you spend a third of your life on.
What is in Wright bedding?
Supima cotton is the trademarked name for American-grown Pima cotton, an extra-long-staple variety. Longer fibers spin into smoother, stronger yarn, so the fabric gets softer with washing instead of pilling. Our sheets, duvets, and down shells use 400-thread-count Supima percale.
Great Lakes white duck down fills our down pillows and comforters: 100 percent white duck down from the Great Lakes region, filled and finished in Southern Ohio. Down insulates by trapping air in three-dimensional clusters, which is why it lofts higher and sleeps lighter than synthetic fill at the same warmth. We also make down alternative versions for allergy-prone sleepers.
Recycled American steel is what our bedframe is made of. Steel is the most recycled material in the country, and recycled steel is just as strong as virgin steel. The frame supports a Wright mattress and foundation without the creak-and-wobble of imported tube frames.
